Carbon Dioxide Removal in the Industry of North Rhine-Westphalia
Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) is not a distant vision for the future, but an opportunity for existing industrial processes in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Synergies exist between carbon management in industry and the possibility of producing permanent negative emissions based on shared infrastructure. Emission reduction and technical CO2 sinks go hand in hand here.
To achieve the synergies for CDR outlined in this publication and to implement them in specific investment decisions, a clear perspective for industrial CDR technologies is urgently needed. The framework conditions for this are currently lacking. Furthermore, it is important to take future quantities of negative emissions into account already today when dimensioning the separation plants and the transport and storage infrastructures.
