Climate-neutral state government

Climate-neutral state government in North Rhine-Westphalia by 2030

The state government plans to set itself up as a role model and provide momentum for companies, municipalities and citizens in terms of climate protection. That’s why it has set the goal of making the c. 540 authorities and other facilities that make up its own administration climate neutral by 2030. To this end, it plans to continually reduce COemissions in the areas of its buildings, vehicle fleet and business trips.

The state government is already taking major steps in this direction by constantly developing its photovoltaic potential on state-owned properties, implementing ambitious energy standards in buildings, purchasing green electricity and carrying out a pilot project to upgrade its charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Alongside these technical measures, the consumer habits of its c. 150,000 employees play a decisive role. NRW.Energy4Climate is helping its employees to reduce their use of heating, air-conditioning and electricity – and hence reduce CO2 emissions.
